Sport & Development - Australia
Interesting article exposing the percentage of 'donor aid' often diverted by larger aid agencies into providing for their 'aid workers' luxury air-conditioned accommodation (with servants of course), new air-con 4x4 transports, private schooling for their kids - you know the story. It is reported that with some of the larger agencies, rarely more than 20% of donors' money ever reaches the people who need it. Make sure you know where your money is really going.

Accommodation in Siem Reap

Bou Savy Guesthouse - Siem Reap:
Great place to stay, relaxed, quiet, away from the road, private, nice clean rooms, good value, good people. Madame speaks French but no English. The sons - Bo Wat, Bo Wan & Bo Won - do speak English. Next door to a Wat, complete with live-in monks, and a primary school. Internet cafe 3 mins walk. They also support local aid & development projects by hiring out their famous white bicycles for a couple of US$/day. They'll meet you at the airport, but let them know in advance if you bring more luggage than a normal rucksack because the default transport is riding pillion on Bo Wan's moped

Earthwalkers Guesthouse - Siem Reap:
A lot of volunteer workers stay here, sometimes for several months - especially Norwegians, so if staying in this kind of atmosphere appeals then this may be the place for you.
